Heat treatment

Heat Treatment in general describes processes in which workpieces are heated to a predetermined temperature, held at that temperature for a certain period, and then cooled under controlled conditions at a specific rate. The cooling rate depends on the desired material properties and the material being treated. For rapid quenching, steels are, among other methods, immersed in water or oil baths.

Through various heat treatment methods, the microstructure of materials can be manipulated to optimize properties such as strength, hardness, and toughness according to specific requirements. This, in turn, enhances the machinability and the lifespan of the material.
